We believe everyone should be able to enjoy delicious, tantalising food, so we have made it our mission to ensure there is no compromise when it comes to plant-based cheese. 

For over thirty years, our expert Sheesemongers have been crafting dairy-free alternatives on the Isle of Bute. In that time we've made the creamiest, meltiest, most flavour-packed plant-based products around. Whether it' s grated or sliced, as a bake or a block. It's exactly as cheese should be. It just happens to be dairy-free.

From Farm to Fame

1988

Sheese (formerly known as Scheese!) was founded by a group of passionate vegan foodies around a farmhouse kitchen table. Our first product was an egg-free mayonnaise style dressing called ‘Nnaise’.

After which we started experimenting with a non-dairy spread called Soyacheese, which would eventually become the basis of the Sheese brand you know & love.

After meeting a company that can produce dairy-free cheese flavours, we are galvanised into developing an alternative to block cheese. Encouraging results mean we start to sell it locally, at this point all of our products were produced by hand!

1990

Our journey to scale began as we purchased
our first manufacturing facility on the Isle of Bute. It was a very small derelict stone building on the island which required complete renovation.
It takes us until 1992 to actually move in!

We complete the sale of the Nnaise recipe to Plamil. Scheese, now our only product, becomes increasingly popular.

1994

Scheese is now the most popular product of its kind in the UK. We purchase a bigger machine and start to employ two people!  With seven more flavours being added to create a more extensive range to choose from. 
The demand for Sheese saw it becoming available in many other European countries, starting with Sweden, Germany & Holland.

As demand grew, we invested in new manufacturing capabilities that also allowed us to launch our range of spreadable products.
